5 Ways Blogging Benefits SEO

Written by Hagadone Technologies | June 2021

Wonder why blogging is so highly recommended by SEO services companies and SEO experts? Why have you may have been told that your site definitely needs a blog…or needs to do it better?

As it turns out, blogging is actually one of the best things you can do for SEO. It isn’t the only thing, or even the most important thing, but rather a very important part of a whole.

Why, you ask? Why should I dedicate time to doing it or hire an SEO agency to do it for me? Let’s go over 5 reasons.

Blogging Helps Keyword Frequency

So, blogging is writing about stuff related to your website.

If you run a photography business and have a website, you write about prom photos, or you write about how wedding pictures are capturing one of the biggest moments of a person’s life. If you run an auto shop, you write about cars in general, or about how parts can fail or something along those lines. You get the general idea.

But here’s the thing: the more the main keywords related to your site appear on your site in an organic way, the more search engines associate your site with that keyword. Thus…your rankings rise.

It’s not just about bragging up your service or product.

Internal Linking with Blogs

Another benefit of blogging is internal linking. This is where you place a link on a page to another page on your website.

For instance, if you run an SEO services company, you’d link to a page about a free SEO analysis.

One of Google’s ranking signals is how often a particular page is linked to within a website and indeed, how often a page is linked to as a whole. If a page is getting lots of obviously organic links (meaning the page is linked to when it makes sense to do it) then that means the page is highly relevant to whatever it is that the site is all about.

Blogging Creates Brand Authority

Let’s set aside the marketing speak for a second when we talk about brand authority in this context. What we mean by “brand authority” is that a blog is a way to demonstrate just how well your company knows the space in which they operate.

You want your customers to think “those guys have the solution I need” and part of how you get there is by demonstrating to them that you know EXACTLY how they feel. You know why they’re looking for new business software, a sprinkler system, or whatever it is that you sell, because you’ve been in their shoes.

How do you get there?

You talk to your customers about…whatever it is that you’re selling. If your company sells running shoes, let on that you know some people prefer a lower heel drop and some people prefer more support. Let on that not everyone needs full synthetic oil when they come in for an oil change.

And so on and so forth.

Blogging Can Lead To Linking

If you get really good at blogging, or hire an SEO services company with top-notch SEO copywriters, there’s a chance that someone’s going to notice it at some point. It might even get shared. Noticed by influencers in the field.

And if you get linked to by one of those influencers, or by a very high-ranking site…those kinds of links are worth their weight in gold.

Adding New Content Also Helps Rank Your Site

One of the SEO factors that Google looks for is whether a website (even a page!) gets updated from time to time. If it just sits there, not doing anything, it gives them the impression the people that run it aren’t doing anything either.

The easiest way, of course, to continually add to your site? Blogging. Adding a new blog every couple of weeks or so is an easy way to convince Google that your site is active.

There are, of course, many different things that Google looks for and not all of them are necessarily covered by blogging. But some of them definitely are.
